The Walking Dead Actress Kelley Mack Dies at 33: A Light Gone Too Soon

The entertainment world is mourning the tragic loss of actress Kelley Mack, best known for her role as Addy on the hit AMC series The Walking Dead. Mack passed away peacefully on August 2, 2025, at the young age of 33, after a courageous battle with glioma of the central nervous system, a rare and aggressive type of brain cancer.

Born as Kelley Klebenow in Cincinnati, Ohio, Mack was a rising star whose warmth and passion touched not only those she worked with but also fans around the world. Her passing was confirmed through a heartfelt post shared by her family on her official Instagram account and her obituary published on Tuesday, August 5.

“It is with indelible sadness that we are announcing the passing of our dear Kelley. Such a bright, fervent light has transitioned to the beyond, where we all eventually must go,” read the emotional Instagram post, accompanied by a single serene image of the actress.

A Blossoming Career and Beloved TV Roles

Kelley Mack first garnered widespread attention for her role as Addy in The Walking Dead Season 9. Her portrayal of a brave, young survivor in a post-apocalyptic world won hearts and showcased her natural ability to embody complex, emotional roles. The show, which ran for 11 seasons from 2010 to 2022, has long been a cultural touchstone — and Mack’s role added to its legacy.

But her talents didn't stop there. She also made memorable appearances as Penelope Jacobs in Chicago Med Season 8 and guest-starred on FOX's hit series 9-1-1. Her filmography includes roles in indie and feature films like Broadcast Signal Intrusion (as Alice) and the recent release Delicate Arch (as Wilda), proving her versatility on screen.

Beyond acting, she was an accomplished producer with five credits to her name. In a career that spanned commercials, television, film, and voice-over work, Mack was a creative force to be reckoned with.

A Voice Heard Across the Spider-Verse

One of Mack's lesser-known yet remarkable achievements was her contribution to the Oscar-winning animated film, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. She provided voice match work for the character Gwen Stacy, originally voiced by Hailee Steinfeld. Her contribution to such a groundbreaking project speaks volumes about her range and talent in the industry.

From Home Videos to Hollywood

Mack's passion for storytelling began in childhood when she received a video camera as a birthday gift. That moment sparked a lifelong love for capturing emotion, telling stories, and performing. Her early beginnings in commercial acting laid the foundation for a promising journey that led her to Los Angeles.

A proud graduate of Hinsdale Central High School (class of 2010), she pursued her passion academically by earning a bachelor’s degree in cinematography from the prestigious Dodge College of Film at Chapman University in 2014. For the past 11 years, Mack lived and worked in Los Angeles, the heart of the entertainment industry.

Not Just a Star — A Radiant Soul

Though her career highlights were impressive, those who knew Mack best often remember her not just as a professional but as an incredible human being. Her obituary lovingly described her as someone who was known for her “warmth, creativity, and unwavering support for those around her.”

“She cherished time with her family and friends, finding joy in collaboration and storytelling,” the obituary read.

She was an adventurer at heart, with a deep love for hiking, pickleball, biking, playing piano, and traveling. She brought joy to both on-screen characters and off-screen relationships.

Kelley’s vibrant energy lit up every room she entered. Her passion was not confined to her work but extended into everything she did — whether it was sharing a laugh on set, enjoying a bike ride, or playing piano melodies for loved ones.

A Legacy That Will Live On

Kelley Mack’s work and presence will continue to resonate, especially with fans of The Walking Dead and aspiring creatives who saw in her a beacon of hope and drive. She will appear posthumously as "Ricky" in an upcoming Universal Pictures release — a final gift to fans and cinema.

In addition to her acting roles, she appeared in commercials for Dr. Pepper, Ross stores, Dairy Queen, Chick-fil-A, and most recently in a Rakuten advertisement alongside her beloved mother, Kristen. Her ability to connect with audiences through any medium was unparalleled.

A Loving Daughter, Sister, and Partner

Mack is survived by her parents, Kristen and Lindsay Klebenow; her siblings, sister Kathryn and brother Parker (also an actor); her grandparents, Lois and Larry; and her boyfriend, Logan, who her family described as her “dearest.”

In their shared grief, her loved ones continue to honor her memory and her legacy of storytelling, laughter, and love.

In Memory of Kelley Mack: Gone Too Soon, Never Forgotten

Kelley Mack’s passing reminds us of the fragility of life and the impact one soul can have on many. In just 33 years, she accomplished what many strive to do in a lifetime: touch hearts, inspire others, and leave behind stories worth remembering.

Her legacy is not just in her IMDb credits or award nominations — it is in the lives she touched, the creativity she sparked, and the love she gave freely.

Rest in peace, Kelley. The world is a little dimmer without your light.
