Priyadarshan on ‘Hera Pheri 3’: Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, and Paresh Rawal Return Amid High Expectations
Mumbai, India — After years of speculation, delays, and production hurdles, Hera Pheri 3 is finally back on track, much to the excitement of fans. Akshay Kumar confirmed that Priyadarshan, who directed the iconic 2000 comedy Hera Pheri, will return to helm the third installment of the much-loved franchise.
The announcement, made during Priyadarshan’s birthday celebration, sent waves of excitement throughout India, as the film’s fans eagerly await its release. Despite previous setbacks — including a change of directors from Farhad Samji and legal complications — the movie seems to be gaining momentum again.
Priyadarshan’s Return: A New Challenge
In a recent interview, Priyadarshan revealed that while he was confident about the original film’s success, he never anticipated it would become the cult classic it is today. Speaking to ETV Bharat, Priyadarshan acknowledged the immense pressure that comes with making the third film, especially with the return of the original trio: Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, and Suniel Shetty.
“I plan to start writing Hera Pheri 3 sometime next year. It’s going to be challenging, as there are huge expectations,” Priyadarshan said, acknowledging that fans are eagerly waiting to see the trio back on screen.
Comedy Challenges: Evolving Humor
The director also highlighted the difficulty of making people laugh, stating, “It is easy to make people cry, easy to scare them, but to make them laugh is very difficult. And to do it without double entendre dialogues is an even greater challenge.” He stressed that humor must evolve with time and that the changing societal tastes need to be reflected in the movie's script.
The Iconic Cast: A Legacy
The film’s original cast — Akshay Kumar (Raju), Paresh Rawal (Baburao Ganpatrao Apte), and Suniel Shetty (Shyam) — are set to reprise their roles, and fans are excited to see them reunite after such a long time. Priyadarshan reminisced about the casting doubts during the making of the first film, which eventually turned into a surprise success, launching the careers of the lead actors in the comedy genre.
He remarked, “People never believed that Akshay, Suniel, and Paresh could pull off comedy, but it surprised them. The success of Hera Pheri was a turning point for their careers.”
Other Projects
Alongside Hera Pheri 3, Priyadarshan is working on another project titled ‘Bhoot Bangla’, which stars Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, and Tabu.
With the highly anticipated Hera Pheri 3 set to begin production in the coming year, fans will be eagerly awaiting more updates on this beloved franchise.
