Beloved Hawaiian actor David Hekili Kenui Bell, known for his heartfelt performances in the Lilo & Stitch live-action film and popular TV shows like Hawaii Five-O and Magnum P.I., has sadly passed away at the age of 57.

The emotional announcement came from his sister, Jalene Kanani Bell, who honored her “sweet, generous, talented, funny, brilliant and handsome” brother in a heartfelt Facebook post on Father's Day. She shared, “David will spend today in the company of our Heavenly Father,” reflecting on the timing of his passing as a reminder of the powerful men in their lives.

David had recently celebrated a career high with the debut of Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch, which premiered just weeks before his passing. He had lovingly organized an opening night outing in Kapolei, purchasing the best seats in the house for friends and family to enjoy the moment with him. “We were so energized by the fans in L&S gear head to toe,” Jalene recalled.

In addition to his most recent Disney role, David appeared as Issac in a 2014 episode of Hawaii Five-O, and portrayed Manu Saluni in the Magnum P.I. reboot. According to IMDb, he was also set to appear in The Wrecking Crew alongside Jason Momoa and Morena Baccarin.

Outside of acting, David made his voice a part of daily life for many travelers—his voice was used at Kona International Airport, where he worked to enhance the visitor experience. His sister described him as a “bright and shining star” who was passionate about storytelling, voiceover work, and sharing Hawaiian culture.

Bell’s deep connection with his roots was reflected in both his work and personal life. “Our dad spoke Hawaiian, so his ability to deliver lines with English understanding, Indigenous knowledge and Pidgin to da Max… made him a diamond in the rough,” Jalene noted.

She also shared a touching story of how they met: “I met my little brother at the age of 18, on my high school graduation day. It was the most amazing surprise.” Despite not growing up with a father, she said, “David gave me all the unconditional love I could possibly ask for.”

No cause of death has been shared, but the loss is already being deeply felt across Hawaii and Hollywood alike. With his blend of humor, heart, and heritage, David H.K. Bell leaves behind a legacy that truly embodies the Aloha spirit.
