Beloved LGBTQ+ teen romance series Heartstopper is officially ending — but not before one last emotional chapter. Netflix and creator Alice Oseman have confirmed that Heartstopper will conclude with a feature-length film, marking a cinematic send-off for Nick and Charlie, played by Kit Connor and Joe Locke.

Based on the Upcoming Sixth Book by Alice Oseman

The finale will draw inspiration from Oseman’s unpublished sixth graphic novel, promising to wrap up the story that’s captured hearts worldwide since its debut. This final chapter will reportedly follow Nick and Charlie navigating the challenges of a long-distance relationship as Nick prepares to leave for university.

Connor & Locke Take Creative Control

Not only are Connor and Locke reprising their roles, but they’ll also serve as executive producers on the film. Connor is currently starring on Broadway in Romeo and Juliet, while Locke was recently seen in Agatha All Along. Their creative involvement is sure to bring added emotional depth to their farewell performances.

Directed by Wash Westmoreland

The film will be helmed by Wash Westmoreland, best known for directing Still Alice and Colette. Filming is set to begin this summer, with a release date yet to be confirmed. The involvement of supporting cast members — including Olivia Colman, who plays Nick’s mother — remains under wraps.

A Fitting Finale for a Groundbreaking Series

In a heartfelt statement, Alice Oseman shared:

“I am completely overjoyed that we will get to tell the end of the Heartstopper story. I’m so grateful to everyone who has worked hard to make this possible and to the incredible fans… I cannot wait to bring this story to a magical conclusion.”

Since its premiere in 2022, Heartstopper has been celebrated for its tender portrayal of LGBTQ+ relationships, mental health awareness, and relatable coming-of-age experiences. The first season became a Top 10 Netflix hit within days of release, and the show has built a devoted fanbase across three critically acclaimed seasons.

Netflix’s Growing Trend of Series-Finale Films

Heartstopper joins a growing list of shows concluding with a feature film, including Sense8, CSI, and Deadwood. With Peaky Blinders and Sex and the City having also used the format, the decision feels both modern and meaningful.

What to Expect in the Final Chapter

While the full plot is still under wraps, we know the film will explore themes of maturity, distance, trust, and the resilience of young love. As Nick and Charlie prepare to go their separate ways — at least geographically — fans are eager to see how their relationship evolves.
