Kate Cassidy, the girlfriend of late One Direction star Liam Payne, has opened up about the heartbreaking loss of her partner, saying she never imagined he would be gone so soon.
In an emotional interview with The Sun, the 25-year-old influencer called his passing a “tragic accident” and shared how she is struggling to cope.
Payne, 31, died in October 2024 after falling from the balcony of his hotel room in
Buenos Aires, Argentina. Toxicology reports later revealed alcohol, cocaine, and a prescription antidepressant in his system, with his official cause of death listed as “polytrauma” due to multiple injuries.
Cassidy, who had been dating Payne since 2022, recalled the painful moment she learned the devastating news. She had left Argentina to return to their Florida home, never expecting tragedy to strike. “Liam was in such a good headspace when I left,” she said. “If I could see into the future, I would never have left Argentina.”
Following his death, Cassidy paid tribute to Payne on social media, calling him “the love of my life.” She also shared a handwritten note from the singer, revealing that they had plans to marry within a year.
The couple first met in 2022 while Cassidy was working as a waitress in South Carolina. Now, she admits she still struggles to process his passing, often calling his phone just to hear his voicemail.
“I think about Liam every second of every day,” she said, expressing the immense grief of losing him so soon.
