Hey GoT fans, brace yourselves for some epic news! 🚀 George RR Martin has just confirmed that HBO is working on not one, not two, but SEVEN new Game of Thrones spin-offs! Following the massive success of the original series and the prequel, House of the Dragon, we’re getting a whole new slate of stories from Westeros and beyond.
During an exciting talk at the Oxford Writers’ House, Martin shared that there will be four animated series and three live-action ones. We already know about some of these projects:
- Aegon the Conqueror (Live-action): Dive into the legendary tale of Aegon Targaryen and his conquest of Westeros.
- Ten Thousand Ships (Live-action): Follow the adventures of Princess Nymeria and her fleet’s epic journey.
- The Golden Empire (Animated): Explore the rich and vibrant culture of Yi Ti.
- Sea Snake (Animated): Set sail with Corlys Velaryon on his daring voyages.
But wait, there’s more! Martin hinted that plans might have evolved, as two animated projects were previously scrapped. So, we might be in for some surprises!
Of course, not all projects may make it to our screens. Remember the scrapped Jon Snow sequel and another series that even filmed a pilot but didn’t move forward? HBO is dedicated to keeping the quality high, especially after the mixed reactions to the final season of Game of Thrones.
On a brighter note, House of the Dragon has been killing it with great viewership and feedback, setting a positive tone for future spin-offs. Plus, the upcoming A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is already generating buzz!
Martin, despite his reputation for delays (we’re looking at you, Winds of Winter!), is heavily involved in these new projects. He’s particularly excited about the animated series, saying, "Given how many fantastic animated adaptations we've seen, those shows could be incredible."
