Hey Swifties! Have you ever heard of a city being renamed in honor of your favorite pop star? Well, Gelsenkirchen, Germany, is doing just that! From July 17 to 19, the city will temporarily become “Swiftkirchen” to welcome Taylor Swift and tens of thousands of her fans for three incredible concerts. 🎤✨
A Fan’s Dream Come True
This fantastic idea started with superfan Aleshanee Westhoff from Emmerich, who kicked off a petition and wrote to Mayor Karin Welge. And guess what? Mayor Welge loved it! In a heartfelt letter, she said, "It's a great idea to temporarily rename Gelsenkirchen to 'Swiftkirchen,' and I am especially pleased that you can witness the temporary 'renaming' of Gelsenkirchen live today."
Today, Aleshanee got to install the very first “Swiftkirchen” sign on Ebertstraße. How cool is that? Markus Schwardtmann, the city’s Head of Public Relations, promises more signs will pop up in high-traffic areas around town.
Swiftkirchen: A Taylor Wonderland
But wait, there’s more! The city is rolling out the red carpet for Taylor and her fans. Here’s what you can look forward to:
- Taylor-Swift-Tram: Already cruising the streets and ready for those perfect selfie moments.
- Swiftie-Themed Decorations: Red frames and special decorations will turn the city into a Taylor wonderland.
- Walk of Fame: Taylor will have a temporary spot on Gelsenkirchen's Walk of Fame with a uniquely designed stone – a must-visit for any fan!
Can’t Get Tickets? No Problem!
For those who couldn’t snag concert tickets, the fun doesn’t stop. Heinrich-König-Platz will transform into “Taylor Town” from July 17 to 19, hosting an epic open-air Taylor Swift party. Expect swap meets, karaoke, tattoos, and so much more. It’s the ultimate fan experience!

"As Mayor, I am thrilled that Taylor Swift, currently the world's most successful singer, will be performing three times in Gelsenkirchen. This international attention on our city, following the EURO 2024, is significant," said Karin Welge.
