FRISCO, Texas – The Dallas Cowboys and the NFL community are mourning the loss of one of the greatest players in football history. Larry Allen, an iconic offensive lineman and a key figure in the Cowboys' legacy, passed away suddenly on Sunday at the age of 52. Allen was vacationing in Mexico with his family at the time of his passing.

Allen's career was nothing short of remarkable. Drafted in the second round of the 1994 NFL Draft out of Sonoma State, he quickly established himself as a dominant force on the field. Known for his incredible strength, agility, and versatility, Allen earned 10 Pro Bowl selections and seven All-Pro honors during his 12 seasons with the Cowboys. He finished his playing career with the San Francisco 49ers, adding an 11th Pro Bowl selection in 2006.

In 2013, Allen was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame as a first-ballot inductee, solidifying his place among the legends of the game. He was also named to the All-Decade team for both the 1990s and 2000s, showcasing his enduring excellence over a stellar 14-season career.

The Dallas Cowboys released a heartfelt statement on Monday morning:

"The Dallas Cowboys are very saddened to share that Cowboys legend, Super Bowl Champion, Cowboys Ring of Honor member, and Pro Football Hall of Famer Larry Allen passed away suddenly while on vacation in Mexico with his family on Sunday. Larry, known for his great athleticism and incredible strength, was one of the most respected, accomplished offensive linemen to ever play in the NFL. His versatility and dependability were also signature parts of his career. Through that, he continued to serve as inspiration for many other players, defining what it meant to be a great teammate, competitor, and winner.

He was deeply loved and cared for by his wife, Janelle – whom he referred to as his heart and soul, his daughters Jayla and Loriana, and son, Larry III. The Jones family and the Cowboys extend their deepest condolences, thoughts, and prayers to the Allen family and grieve along with the many other friends and Cowboys teammates that also loved Larry.

Memorial service arrangements and details will be announced in the near future."

Larry Allen's legacy extends beyond his impressive accolades. His iconic moment chasing down a Saints linebacker during a Monday Night Football game in his rookie year showcased his extraordinary speed and determination. This memorable play, alongside his reputation for bench-pressing over 700 pounds, cemented his status as a true powerhouse on the field.

Allen's versatility was equally remarkable. Transitioning seamlessly from guard to tackle and back to guard, he excelled at every position, earning Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors throughout his career.
