"If we start from the pit, there are also some benefits as well," Alonso acknowledged. "We need to avoid those kinds of things for the quantity of parts that we have on Formula 1 teams. So yeah, it could be an option."

Despite the potential for avoiding early-race incidents, Alonso remains realistic about his chances. Imola's tight and twisty nature makes overtaking a Herculean task, second only to Monaco in difficulty. "Points are a little bit unrealistic," Alonso admitted. "Let's see. I think Imola is one of the worst places to start at the back. It's going to be a tough race, but we should be able to learn something about the package as well."
